Double Dutch Espresso, 118th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard: Productivity Promised Land and Tinder Date Mecca

Overall: 10/10

Power Outlets: Yes, many and power strips!

Wi-Fi: Yes, and fast.

Noise Level: Low, zen music.

Coffee: Good.

Bathrooms: Yes

Seating: Ample

Hours: 7 am-8pm

Bookstore: No

Bougie: Nah, hipster.

Double Dutch Espresso is a freelance writer’s Shangri-La. While the hipster vibe and bandana-wearing crew seems to be a bit much, the plug-in-ability is excellent. The rear seating area features enough outlets and power strips to charge your phone and computer. The crowd is mostly mid-30’s to 40’s coffee-lovers, and the odd Columbia grad student. The music is mellow and helps with focus. There is also an outdoor seating area that seems like it would be a great place to lounge in the warm spring and summer months.

The coffee and espresso drinks are good, though the pastries are standard. The tarnished antique mirrors and chicken wire barn window decor is warmed by the golden lighting, which is dim but still good for reading. Overall, Double Dutch would be a great study spot and tinder date venue alike.
