Dear Little Blogosphere,
A chain coffee shop by any other name would not smell as sweet as The Bean. For all it’s flaws, this Greenwich Village caffeine hub still ranks high on my list of recommendations.
The Bean has a few locations in Greenwich Village. Notably, there are two, YES TWO locations less than ten blocks apart on 1st Ave and 2nd Ave (can you be more extra?). Nevertheless, it’s not a complaint. The coffee shop is welcoming, and if you can land a seat, you can stay a while. The wi-fi is, unfortunately, the worst wi-fi in Manhattan– nay, America– but the coffee in addition to the wide array of vegan, sweet, savory, and breakfast treats makes up for it. The bathroom has a key, the tables are big enough to share with strangers, and the music is upbeat and productive.
The Bean’s signature drinks include the Nut-Ella Fitzgerald Latte (espresso, nutella, and milk) and the Mother Te-Reese-a, a peanut butter-chocolate drinkable confection. However, my favorite drink is the Dirty Chai, a chai latte with a shot of espresso. Don’t knock it ’til you try it… They also have a wide selection of smoothies and acai bowls. It’s definitely vegan friendly. A true Greenwich Village staple.
