Hello Little Blogosphere!
Crux, the constellation known as the “Southern Cross,” is only visible in the southern hemisphere. Actually it’s only visible in the night sky below 35 degrees latitude, in case you were wondering. It is composed of five stars that form *surprise* *surprise* a cross. So, naturally, it’s a very odd name for a coffee shop that makes home in Manhattan.
Southern Cross Coffee is yet another quiet East Village find. The shop is an okay place to work in. It features six round tables and a bar that looks out onto 5th street. It’s a colorful little space with tiled floors and a wild lighting fixture that brands itself as “the best of Australian and Argentinian coffee culture.” I cannot attest to that, as I’ve never been to either place. However, their house brew is Brooklyn Roasting Company blend called “Starry Night.” Cute and on-theme.
